Tai Tanzania aims to educate adolescents, both male, and female, about the adverse effects of teenage pregnancies through the true art of storytelling. Our new 3D Animation Film, Zungumza will showcase a fraction of the realities of thousands of young girls in Tanzania. Supporting the community to avoid teenage pregnancies is not a one-time agenda but a progressive and long-term journey. This is why our animations are a series of stories which will always be available on digital platforms like YouTube.

Our films are both educational and entertaining, leaving young people wanting to learn more about critical issues like teenage pregnancies. Ultimately, young people leverage on our animations to be equipped with reliable sexual reproductive health education and various ways they can help end teenage pregnancies and people in their community experiencing this reality.

The Zungumza 3D Animation sets around Kasulu district in Kigoma. Whereas KORI, 15-year-old student, finds her educational journey cut short after she gets pregnant. Her parents, enraged, storm in the village chairperson’s offices, demanding his interference as they believe the school’s teachings on sexual reproductive health are the root cause for Kori’s predicament. This is one of the major false assumptions many people have within our community. Education on sexual reproductive health protects young people from teengae pregnancies.

The school teacher, KENDI, tries to reason with Kori’s parents that the education provided is not the cause but the parents are unapproachable. Using his authority, The Village Chairperson seeks the root cause, asking every person to share their sides of the story. Kori, with the help of Ngeti, explains the hardships the schoolchildren have to face, juggling school during the day and supporting their families by selling at the night market.

Lack of parental support to the children, adds fuel to the flame, as Kori has to find support from people outside of her circle. From there, the man responsible, CHECHE, is brought to scene and supports Kori’s statement on lack of parental support and guidance.

There is much more to this story, much more to these realities. This story draws the reality of what most African families go through and we should be convinced  that until we protect adolescents from teenage pregnancies, these realities will persist. Through organisations our partnership with the Tanzanian Government and organisations like the UNFPA, UNESCO, UN Women and KOICA Tanzania, our country has taken steps forward to end teenage pregnancies.
